Santa Cruz to Puerto Montt

The middle section of Chile took me through a few mid-sized cities (Concepción and Valdivia), some outdoor recreation towns (Pucón and Puerto Varas), and views of the coast, waterfalls, lakes, and volcanos.

On the transport side, I had the opportunity to use a commuter train twice. They didn’t run very often, but helped get further on hot days (when I had to stop by 1pm). The trains were very modern. I also spent a few days on Ruta 5, a limited access highway. This was flat and boring, but plenty of space to bike along. And finally, a few cycletracks. The city of Los Ángeles had an especially nice network.
