Lake Titicaca and Peruvian Highlands

Lake Titicaca is the world's highest navigable lake. It's shore served as a continuation of my Altiplano route, without much elevation change all the way to Cusco, Perú. At times, the lake was far away across a dry landscape. But on a few islands, isthmuses, and peninsulas, the beauty of this unexpected inland sea showed. Along the route, there were daily opportunities to see Incan and pre-Incan archeological sites.

A few of the towns and cities had bike infrastructure. But some of the provided bikeways were not useful, since many Peruvians use large cargo tricycles to move crops and sell things. These vehicles work better in the roadway. Cusco is a long and skinny city, and had one linear bike path that was a comfortable way to enter the city.
